wind is scary.

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 21, 2008, 3:14 PM

very scary.

well...considering I was raised in Houston and am used to hurricanes that damn storm scared the hell out of me.

To sum it up...my father who is a police office was on duty for over 36 hours, leaving my mom, me and my sis at the house with no power or water. Lost power on friday night. Needless to say that began days of complaining about the lack of airconditioning.

The scary part though was the wind. My mom and me stood at an upstairs bedroom window and watched as the wind completely knocked down the back portion of our fence, and heard when it shattered one of the bay windows from shaking the pane with the frame.

Now normally during hurricanes I sleep. And I mean SLEEP. Like for 14-16 hours. Because when it is that hot, and you are that bored, sleep is the next best option. Ike even hit at its worst during the middle of the night, and I couldn't get a wink in. Every time I would doze off the large tree outside my bedroom would rudely awaken me by slamming into the side of the house.

So when this noise stopped and I was finally able to sleep I now know I should have been afraid. Because here is the reason the tree stopped banging against my wall...

So yeah, Penny has about 2G worth of damage and is going on a nice lil vacation to the dealership for some uh..."cosmetic surgery" Yeah...I can laugh now but I near about cried when I first saw it.

The same type of tree on the other side of the driveway, seen here [link] also lost most of its branches which went into the backyard. And the same type of tree on the other side of the house did the same and landed on our neighbors car. :ohmygod: (Note to self...remove pear shaped trees...apparently they don't stand up to 100 mph winds.)

All in all the damage was my car, my fathers 65' Chevy truck (which was under the same branches that fell on my car), 1 window, just a little water in the house, the fence, and some missing shingles. Amazingly enough this is NOTHING compared to some of the things coming out on the news. Including some friends of mine from Galveston island who ranges from just a few inches of water in their house, to having no house at their address anymore. :(

Now I leave you with one of the most amazing images I've seen from this whole thing. Talk about being lucky.

Yep, definitely could have been worse. Some of my friends still don't have power, and one doesn't even have a house anymore :(

Wow :o

That sounds pretty nasty, glad you're ok of course and in one piece, but still sounds like a horrible experience.

Have you seen this [link] ? :omg:

Me too!

At one point I had to go out in the back yard during the storm! We had tied down our large BBQ pit to the fence, and when it fell the ropes snapped and the damn thing started to blow out of the yard and into the flooded bayou behind our house!!

It was windy.

I thought I was gonna fall over.
